Belize Day #1

The First few days of our trip were fairly uneventful.  We flew to Cancun on a red eye flight, landing us at 10:37 am.  We searched around for a cheap ride to Playa del Carmen.  The cabbies were offering $30 American each.  Too much for our liking.  We finally hung around long enough that we were pointed in the direction of the buses.  The buses were nicer than Greyhound, came with air conditioning and t.v..  The trip to Playa cost us each $10 American.  We were off to a good start.  Once in Playa we started wandering around like suckers trying to find a place to stay for our first night.  It didn't take us long to realize it was too hot, and our bags were too heavy to continue on.  Problem solved:  I would sit at a restaurant and drink Cuba Libres and guard our bags while Nathan searched out accommodations.  He found a small hostel for $40, including air conditioning approximately 20 steps from the beach.  We checked in and headed for the beach.  After a few hours of sun bathing, we wandered around desperately searching out a sports bar: the final NCAA championship game was a high priority on Nate's lists of "things to do while on vacation".  We had given up and were heading back to our hostel when we stumbled across the biggest sports bar on 5th ave!  The bar even had a Saskatchewan Roughriders flag!  Nate was in heaven.  After the game and a few too many beverages, we headed to bed.  Our bus to Chutemal was leaving at 9:00 am the next morning.
