Belize Day #2

Up and at them!  Heading to our destination .... Belize!  Onto the bus at 9:00 am, we should be in Chutemal by 1:00.  We are traveling by the same air-conditioned bus with Spanish movies.  Once in Chutemal we paired with a couple from Montreal who were at the beginning of the same type of trip Nate and I were on.  We shared a cab to the next bus station, grabbed some grub and jumped on the bus to take us across the border.  This bus was of another type.... an old school bus.  No air-conditioning, no Spanish movies! Alas, we were nearing the border.  The bus driver instructed us to leave our bags on the bus, walk across the border and he would pick us up on the other side.  Wait a minute ... leave our bags on the bus!  No one else on the bus seemed to think this was a big deal, so we followed the crowd leaving our bags behind us.  Nate and I were sure we would be spending the rest of our vacation bag-less, sure we would never see our bus driver, bus or bags, ever again!  Upon crossing the border we made a naive mistake.  Given the option to pay either on entry or exit of Belize, we chose to pay on entry.  To our utter surprise and relief, our bus driver was waiting for us on the other side.  We climbed back onto the bus and again to our surprise, our bags were actually on the bus and seemingly untouched!  We continued onto Corozal.  Once there we thought we would take the ferry over to San Pedro where we would spend our first night in Belize.  Arriving in Corozal too late for the ferry, a flight was our only option.  We opted to spend a few hours in Corozal and take the next flight to San Pedro.  We arrived at the airport 15 minutes prior to departure, paid our fee, were handed our top security boarding passes and jumped on the plane.  We landed in San Pedro and cleverly set to the task of finding a place to stay.  We jumped in a cab, told him what we were looking for and he drove us directly to Ruby's.  Mission accomplished.  We then ventured out and organized our first dive of the vacation for the next morning.  All in all, a smooth beginning to our trip.
